The Chartered Management Institute Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management for the Paper & Print Industry

Run in conjunction with "Development Matters"

Proskills, the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the Paper and Print Industries has secured £2.9 million of Government funding for training and qualifications across the sectors they represent.  The ‘Train to Gain’ initiative has been replaced by the current ‘Joint Investment Programme (JIP).

The funding is specifically aimed at the low carbon skills agenda in the sector and includes energy reduction, new technologies, product performance, waste reduction, alternative fuels and warehousing.  All the funding assigned through the JIP will be spent directly on training and qualifications for people in the sector.

Under JIP, employers will be able to access up to 50% funded support for Level 3 qualifications in a range of vocational areas.  One of the recognised qualifications which fall under this heading is the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 3 Certificate in Management.

Development Matters is a Centre for CMI and is accredited to run this qualification.

The timescales for the current funding period run until the 30 November 2011. Employers therefore will have to have registered their named candidates with Proskills by that date to be eligible.

The funding can only be accessed through Proskills accredited Training Providers.

Training will commence at the beginning of 2012.

The Level 3 Certificate in Management consists of two units, each of two days class contact.  Following each unit a written assessment must be completed and passed.  Each candidate must complete both Units and pass both assignments in order to achieve the Certificate.

Costs per candidate will be approximately £900 and will therefore cost the employer, after funding approximately £450 (£225 per Unit), plus VAT.  This figure will include all training materials, marking of all assessments and provision of training venues.  It will exclude a one-off student registration fee with CMI of approx. £60, any accommodation, travel or subsistence outside the training day.

Organisations in other industries experiencing restructuring, redundancies etc. have identified that at times when morale, motivation and performance may be suffering qualifications can offer a reason for the ‘best’ people to stay with an organisation and can influence the haemorrhage of good staff.
