Guest Speakers Berry Wiersum
Berry was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Sappi Fine Paper Europe on 15 January 2007 and appointed Chairman of The Confederation of European Paper Industries – Cepi, starting 1st January 2010 until the end 2011. He started his career at ICI Fibres, became President of Amoco Fabrics (Europe), then the President of Amoco Chemicals (Europe), and when Amoco was taken over by BP, he moved to BP to assist with the integration of the two groups in Europe. He subsequently left BP and joined Pechiney S.A. in France and ran the CEBAL packaging division until he was recruited as Managing Director of the Packaging division of Kappa Packaging BV (The Netherlands) and member of the Management Board responsible for paper manufacture and packaging in the Kappa group. He holds a Master of Arts degree with Combined Honours in Mediaeval and Modern History and subsidiaries in French and Music from the University of St Andrews in the UK.
Norman Croucher OBE
In demand as a funny and motivational speaker, Norman Croucher has lectured to a wide variety of audiences of up to three and a half thousand people at home and abroad. He is the acclaimed mountain climber who, despite having two below the knee artificial legs, set out to climb just one of the world's 14 mountains which exceed 8,000 metres (about 26,250 feet) or as he put it "join the 5-mile high club". His goal truly was a near impossible dream. Alongside such people as round-the-world yachtsman Chay Blyth, the World Motor Racing Champion Jackie Stewart, radio and TV personality Jimmy Savile and athletic champion Brendan Foster, Norman has twice been chosen as Man of the Year. He has been the subject of a "This is Your Life" programme and received an OBE for his voluntary work for disabled people. He was the first disabled person to be appointed to the Sports Council. With Falklands veteran Simon Weston, he received a special "Men of the Years" award for continued achievement in celebration of the scheme's thirtieth anniversary.
Toastmaster and Master of Ceremonies Brian Greenan
Brian Greenan is our regular toastmaster, he was President of the Society of London Toastmasters in 1998. His clients include the Variety Club, the Lord's Taverners, the Lady Taverners and the Lady Rattlings, as well as many other high profile charities, institutions, organisations and corporate clients. In January 2004 he was the Toastmaster for the Royal Inaugural Ball on board the world's biggest cruise ship the Queen Mary 2, just one of the many Royal functions he has done. In October 2004 he was made an Honorary Barker of the Variety Club of Great Britain.
